Event conditions and official sources
Birth-year ranges overlap. These are event eligibility ranges, rather than a single club age-group assignment. V70 includes fencers born in 1957 or earlier; V80 includes 1947 or earlier, so those categories also overlap.
Senior divisions: Division I requires A, B or C; Division II accepts C, D, E or U; Division III accepts D, E or U. Division I-A has no classification limit in the published age/rating table. Additional entry or qualification criteria may apply.
Ratings earned: A new classification depends on the sanctioned event's grouping and results. The old page's blanket "Rare" / "Yes" labels are replaced with the official classification reference.
Youth equipment and format: Y8/Y10 use a maximum 32.5-inch blade (normally size 2); other categories use regulation blades. Individual Y8/Y10 and Veteran DEs normally use 10 touches; other individual categories normally use 15. Team and event-specific formats differ. See the current rulebook and event prospectus.
Points exceptions: USA Fencing permits certain younger fencers to enter older categories through the applicable points-list or exemption rules. Check current Athlete Handbook section 2.5 and the tournament's entry requirements.
